Nthabiseng Motsepe Notyesi

Professionally known as NthabySang

NthabySang grew up in a musically inclined family, which used to sing. Her interest in music stems from discovering her talent within her home and later affirmed in church at a tender age of 13 years. From then on, she never looked back. She consistently dedicated her time and talent to church for a number of years.
On completing her Matric, she pursued a Diploma in Jazz and Popular music and later a Degree in Music Education and Performance at the Durban Institute of Technology and University of KwaZulu-Natal respectively.

While studying, NthabySang was lead vocalist for a band, called Unik, which performed live on some of the Joy of Jazz Festivals around the country, Macufe, Sejacufe and Nelspruit. She has also performed at the following lounges - Revits, Jubilee, Jazz Centre, Jazzy Rainbow, Zulu Jazz Lounge, SunCoast casino, as well as other corporate gigs. Over and above that, she was a part-time lecturer at the University of KwaZulu Natal, teaching jazz vocal and vocal jazz ensemble. She has carried on with her other love teaching, to pass on her knowledge to others by offering voice training and coaching sessions. She was voice coach, choir member and lead vocal for the award winning Joyous Celebration from 2010 to 2015. She also runs NthabySang voice studio for training and coaching since 2009.

She is currently jazz vocal lecturer and voice coach at the University of Pretoria for the music and drama departments respectively. She has recently been appointed African and Gospel choir lecturer at Tshwane University of Technology. She has also been adjudicator for eisteddfod, UJ and UP serrie,UNISA and SAMRO voice competitions respectively.

Her passion, inspiration and vision as a performing artist as well as her formal training led her to pursue a solo career in various genres of music. She confidently handles Jazz, Pop, Afro-pop, African, Fusion, Gospel and soulful compositions with poise and passion. This is carried through with her stage presence, interaction with her audience - which she really ‘feeds on’, and a commanding, fresh, crispy soprano voice she is endowed with. As she expresses her gusto for undertaking a solo career, she candidly and purposely affirms that “if I stopped singing the song I carry would have died.”
